I'm in LOVE with the name Loralei (spelled like that) however I do NOT want her called Lora. I know it can be spelled Lorelei also and that fixes the Lora part but I don't love it spelled like that.
I know Rory is a nn of Loralei although I can't figure out for the life of me why. :-) I love Rory so that's not the case but I just wondered if anyone could come up with any other cute nn's.
Re: Spellings and nn help
Rae?
Lea? (leah)
Lori?
Not every name has/needs a nickname.
GL!
Or better yet, why not find a NN that actually has an emotional attachment to the CHILD. See what the kid's personality, likes, dislikes, etc (never a body part though) are and take it from there.

Or how about a nickname not related to Loralei? Like "Smiley" or "Pumpkin". Haha
I know only because of this board that Rory is a nn for it, but before I joined this board, I would never have known that.
If I asked someone her daughter's name, and she said "Loralei, but we call her Rory" I would automatically assume she is a diehard fan of "Gilmore Girls", since the mom's name was Lorelei, and the daughter's name was Rory.
Well I was a fan of the show BUT it truly is a nn for Loralei. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm a firm believer that every name will have a nn at some point in the child's life whether you want it or not. I do like the suggestion of just waiting until it comes naturally though.
My daughter's name is Aviryne (Av-er-inn) and I haven't shortened it for at all. I love it the way it is. My dad calls her Avey, though.
I think it's nice the way it is. You don't need a nn. And I prefer the spelling Loralei. I'm sure someone will call her Lora regardless of how it's spelled.
