anyone own a chevy traverse?

We are exploring our options for a new car for DH.  His 2 door civic barely cuts it with Jacob, but with a 2nd on the way it will be a PITA. I was hoping to hold out until next year, but DH wants to try to next fall.

Anyone have a traverse? Likes? dislikes?  Any other recs for a SUV with 3rd row seating besides the honda pilot with easy access to the 3rd row? (we already have a pilot) We want to buy a used car, another new one is not in the cards

  • I have an Acadia and I love it.  I think that and the traverse are pretty similar.  It's got 3rd row seating, captains chairs in the center.  We've never really used the 3rd row yet, but the captains chairs fold up out of the way pretty easily.

  • We've been looking into getting a new car.  In terms of SUV's, we've looked at the Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia and Ford Flex.  All have third throw seating.  Out of those three, I like the Chevy Traverse the best.  It is essentially the same as the Acadia but you get more for your money IMO than you do in the Acadia.  Basically, you can get a pimped out Traverse for the same price you would pay for a base level Acadia.  Another thing I noticed between the two vehicles as well is the Acadia seemed much higher to step up into than the Traverse.  Given this, I think getting kids in and out of car seats would be much easier in the Traverse.
  • I have no concept of other dealerships except honda...but is the traverse a fairly new car? Is it possible to get a used older model? Like a 2008?

I know they made the Traverse in 2008 so I would think that would definitely be a possibility.

Can I asked what they quoted you for a traverse? Ball park price?

  • I have had one since December.  We love it!  It is so easy to haul DH, DD and our two dogs.  The only thing I would change would be to have the auto rear door.  I am always in and out of the back and it is a pain.  I have had 6 large adults and DD in there with lots of room to spare.  All the seats have plenty of leg room even the 3rd row.

A coworker of mine switched from the lexus rx to a traverse... and I'm pretty sure she's happy with it.

As much as I like the look of the suv's, I think we'll be in the market for a minivan the next time we're car shopping.... Automatic doors sound really good to me, along with a host of other things related to minivans.  And it really pains me to say all of this, but I really think it's a much more economical option for us.

  • We rented a Traverse when we went on vacation a few weeks ago and absolutely LOVED it.  There was plenty of room for DS plus all our luggage.  The one we rented was fully loaded with 2 sun roofs, DVD player, Sirius radio, etc.  I would love to buy one in the future.

  • I am already thinking about trading in my 2008 Rogue for a Traverse or a Ford Edge.  I loved my Nissan, but am quickly seeing the corners they cut when making them.  I hear much the same from friends with Rav4s or CRVs.  I want to switch back to American made.  I will need the extra room when the next child arrives, be it a pg or adoption (or both).

I looked at a Chevy Equinox when I bought my Rogue, and the only thing I hated was the wide wheel base.  The turns in that vehicle were very wide.  It made me feel too unsure when parking or turning sharply.  Pay close attention to that when you drive one.  I can whip my Nissan into very tight spaces.  Cargo room sucks in very small SUVs, and the AWD will not lock in, so no off roading (yes, we do that at the beach in NC) or locking 4WD for snowy roads.  Check in on that as well.  I am very happy with my SUV, and do not see myself going back to a car for some time.  Minivans are totally NMS, and out of the question, so I am already looking at possibilites for my next SUV as well.

  • We just got a Ford Flex, and really like it so far. I was opposed to getting a new car to begin with (I figured my husband made the stupid decision to buy a two-door Honda Accord to begin with, and he could suffer the consequences by squeezing a 20 lb baby in an infant seat into the backseat), but he convinced me, and I think it was a good purchase. It's pretty comfortable, and very spacious. He was originally considering the Ford Edge but didn't think it would be big enough to accommodate our family when we decide to have more kids. He also liked the extra features on the Limited edition of the Flex (navigation system, Sirius radio, etc.).

This although I use the 3rd row on a regular basis.  When we have departmental lunches at work we always take my car. I have 3 adults in that 3rd row.  I actually have a Saturn Outlook which is the same thing as the Acadia.  There is also the new GMC Terrains which look really nice too. I don't have a bad thing to say about my Outlook and I have had it for a year now.

It was in the mid 30's I believe and that included all leather seating, DVD entertainment system, etc.  I should add that was for a brand new Traverse.  You probably could get a used one for much less than that.

  • I'm a little late, but I thought I'd add to the thread. We just bought a Traverse about 2 months ago and LOVE it. I went from a 2 door Ford Zx2 to the Traverse (my "mom car") and was super worried about being in such a large vehicle. I feel like the Traverse still drives like a car and I don't feel like I'm in this huge SUV at all. There is tons of space inside and I too have had adults sit in the 3rd row seats. Some of the SUVs we looked at with "3rd row seating" looked like they were nothng more than built in booster seats so seeing that the Traverse has so much room back there was a deal breaker. When looking for our new car I wanted something our family can grow into but wasn't a minivan since that's not my style.

I love having all the space both for passengers and for storage. The drive is very smooth and reacts to every little turn of the wheel. The gas milage was on of the best for the size of the car, although I normally only get about 16 mpg since I drive all back roads to work. Now the main thing that I don't like is the little mini window in the back- you can't see ANYTHING out of that when you're trying to back up. This could be from going from a 2 door car to a large SUV but I was very worried about backing up in the Traverse. We got the back up camera and it's been a lifesaver! I would highly highly recommend that addition. The other thing that I wish we would have added on was the power lift gate. That would be really nice, but it would have thrown us from the LT1 to the LT2 and we couldn't afford to bump up to the next model with the features we wanted.

So far I'm very happy with the car and all the features that we added. I definitely think we got our money's worth with this car and it will be great when we have a family.
