Lump from blood draw?

My favorite phlebotomist is not there on weekends :(  The woman who drew my blood today left a huge lump.  There's just a little bruise, but there's a sore bump about the width of a nickle.  Feels like a big marble.

Should i ice it?  Leave it? Worry about it?

Re: Lump from blood draw?

  • I was told to ice it when this happened to me.  FWIW I don't think it makes much difference.  DH just had this happen to him & he left it alone.  His arm looks bruised now (I guess the blood spread out), but that's it.

  • I would try a hot compress-this will allow the lump to soften & reabsorb.

    Sounds like a hematoma.

  • Don't worry about it. It'll go down. I get that sometimes if I don't keep pressure on it right after.

  • This happens to me too.. the nurses at my RE say to make a warm compress and hold it on for a few minutes several time/day til it gets better.
