Can you stand another grad gift question?

Do you spend the same amount no matter what the recipient is like or what he/she is going to do after school? What if he has no intention of getting a full-time job or going to college or any type of school? Current pocket money comes from grandparents (not a lot). He could not wait to graduate so he could do nothing.

Would you give him money? A gift card? The same amount as a teen who is going to college? Do you base it on the fact that he is being rewarded for graduating, so he deserves just as much as a college-bound teen?

Re: Can you stand another grad gift question?

  • It sounds like any money you give him will allow him to continue doing nothing. It's not an accomplishment that he graduated from high school...it's an expectation (I'm obviously assuming this teen does not have any special needs that make HS graduation a difficult endeavor).  In his case, I'd be tempted to give nothing, but I'd probably give him a GC anyway.
