Hi all, posting from 0-3. I figured you all would have the answers to this question.. Here's the situation: My b/g twins are 4 weeks adjusted now. DS still in nicu and expected to be there for another 2 months (sad, long story ) and DD is home and growing like a weed. She's already 10 lbs at 4 weeks old. I have not bought strollers and I have only bought one Graco Snugride for DD. I'm tempted to buy the Double Snap n Go from amazon (coupon!) plus another graco snugride, but I'm afraid that DD will outgrow the car seat in no time. I'm just looking for experiences with outgrowing the Snugride:How fast did your child outgrow the Snugride -- 5, 6 months, a year?If your child put on weight quickly in the first month, how fast did they get to 22 lbs, and what did she/he weigh at 1 year?Obviously I know there's no way to tell how heavy DD will be in the upcoming months, but just wanted to throw it out there ETA:Thank you for the helpful comments! I did read that growth will slow down after 3 months or so.Just to add that I do have a twin stroller coming from my SIL -- the Maclaren Twin Techno, but I will not be picking that up till months later (she's a few states away). The snap n go would be a lightweight frame for convenience and since we already have one snugride.
i'm so sorry about your son - what is going on? We're here if you want to talk about it - and some moms might have some good info.... so sad
one of my twins outgrew the snuride at 4mo... he was 18lbs and i just couldn't carry him in it anymore- even though the weight limit on it was 22lbs.
Grayson JUST outgrew it - we kept him in until he hit 22lbs- which he did at 1 y/o.... it was so helpful to have at least one baby in the infant seat so we didn't switch him until last weekend.
you can always get a DSNG - they are listed all the time - or buy it and if you don't use it - sell it back on craigslist for the same price....
i hope your son comes home soon. I'm so sad to hear he'll be there so long- it must be so rough on you to be back and forth
My twins are almost 7m (1 week away). Jacob is 17lb 4oz, William is 16lb 4oz as of Tuesday. It really does slow down quite a bit. DS1 (JR) was bout 23-24 pounds at 1 year, by 2 years he was only 29 pounds, at 2.5 he was around 31 pounds. GL.
This is actually my first post on Multiples, am usually lurking on Preemie. I haven't even done an intro post on that board. Bad me
I pPrommed with DS at 19 wks, actually 18w5d if the drs are being picky. You may know that most of the crucial fetal lung development takes place during 18-23 wks. The high risk pg unit was horribly pessimistic about DS's chances. In fact during the 10 weeks I was on bedrest, DS's chances weren't discussed at all.. We only talked about whether DD would survive. I delivered at 29 weeks because infection finally caught up to me. DS almost didn't make it.. on day 3 they asked me if I wanted to remove life support because he wasn't getting enough O2 (not saturating well, only in the 60s and healthy people saturate at 95+%). Finally they tried using nitrous oxide, which may cause brain bleeds, and he turned around.
DS has gone through a LOT, but despite it all I think we've been very lucky and I feel so blessed to have these babies. Oh these were IVF babies too.
We've gotten so lucky with DD -- she has no major issues whatsoever, eats like a champ and growing well. She does have a small ASD (hole somewhere in the heart that's supposed to close by itself).
DS also has been very fortunate. He will have to be in the NICU for a bit more to grow healthy lung tissue. It's a very slow process. But he's not on the ventilator (was on it for 4 weeks) and has been doing well on CPAP. He had some minor preemie issues like GRI/II brain bleeds, hernia surgery, suspected GERD, but nothing truly bad (in my book).
Thanks for listening and I hope I haven't scared any future MoMs on this board.
i hope DS is home and healthy very soon! to answer your question though my boys were all caught up and in the 95% for weight and height by 4 mo. so i know fast growers. we switched them out of the infant seats around 6 mo. when they could sit on their own (or else i didnt know what to do with them when we went out to eat). they were heavy at that point (i wanna say around 19 lbs.) you can always leave the infant seats in the car when they get to heavy to lug around. they wont 'outgrow' them for awhile (i had the graco 32 and they just now would be outgrowing the weight limit). it is handy to have them in the infant carriers. and i DEF. miss my DSNG!!!! anyway, i hope your little guy is home soon. and welcome to the multiples board!
I'm sorry to hear you and your son have been through so much! I hope he does well and is able to come home as soon as possible.
As for your question about growth, my boys were born at 6lbs10oz and 6lbs7oz. They weren't weighed at 1m, but at their 2m appt they were each just over 12 lbs and at their 3m appt, they were each right around 15lbs, so they each gained 8.5 lbs just in the first 3 months! They didn't outgrow their Snugrides until 7.5m though; at that point, Alex was 21 lbs and Will was 19 lbs. Since Alex was less than a pound away from the limit, we went ahead and switched them to convertible seats, so we did get a good amount of use out of our Snugrides and DSNG. (Their growth did slow WAY down after that though; by 12m Alex was 23 lbs even and Will was 21.7, and at 15m Alex was 23.12 and Will was 23.4, IIRC, so they gained way faster in those first 7m than in the 10m since then.)

what a rough road you have all been on - you seem to have a great attitude- which no doubt is helping your son to get better!
Keep posting here! there are a lot of MoMs on here who have been through similar situations (many probably post on preemies, too).
it's a very real risk of being pg with twins+.... you don't have to worry about scaring future MoMs - it's good that they all realize how serious things can be - esp since we get so many women who come on here asking how to get pg with twins b/c they think they are cool.... sure- they ARE cool- but they are also scary and dangerous pregnancies.
