Maryland Babies

How my first week back at work went...

I started a new job on Wednesday, when Sydney was 8 weeks. It wasn't ideal for me to go back to work so soon (I would have loved 12 weeks off), but I was offered this fantastic job and I couldn't turn it down just because I wanted 4 more weeks off.

My MIL came to our house to watch Sydney, but she'll start daycare next week. Overall, I think it went pretty well. I pumped enough to have 4 4oz bottles for her each day, although she didn't always go through it all. I still worry that she's eating more than normal because bottles are so much less work than breastfeeding, but I'm going to ask the pediatrician about it at her 2 month appt on Monday.

I was so busy with learning things about my new job, that I didn't really have too much time to think about how much I missed her. Only when people asked me how I was doing and wanted to talk about it, did I start to get teary.

So overall, it went well but I'm glad it was just 3 days and next week is only 4.

  • Yay!  That sounds great.  How did Sydney and your MIL do?

I took 2 short weeks back too and I think it helped.

  • Glad to hear things went well.  It does get easier, I promise.  For some reason, I had the hardest time on day 3...like full on crying at work and all, but after that, things really got better.  Even though I think about DD all the time at work, I find looking at her pictures online and on my desk helps and anytime someone asks about her, I share all about her! :)

She did really well with my MIL, so that made me happy. A few things irked me, but I know its just different generations of raising kids.

For example, I made sure MIL knew she was supposed to only sleep on her back and the first day I came home and she was sleeping on MIL's chest because, "she really loves to sleep on her stomach" (with a disapproving look). I'm fine with her sleeping on her chest, I love when she does that too, but frankly my child is just fine on her back and don't tell me after spending one day with her what she likes and doesn't like.

  • It does get easier. Sydney will be in great hands at daycare.

Let me know if you are ever at FS and I'll meet up with you for lunch.

  • Glad it went well, it does help so much to be busy.  The days fly by and before you know it you are on your way home to see your LO.  It's hard to guage how much they eat when you start bottles, I think at 2 months John was having anywhere from 3 to 4 oz at each bottle.  At 3 and a half months he was doing 6 oz (but we also were doing some sleep training, roughly following the schedule from 12 hours sleep by 12 weeks).  It's great you get to ease into working full time with 2 partial weeks
