Is there such a thing as a baby/child-safe bug spray? We love spending time outdoors, but because of the flooding Nashville experienced in May the mosquitos are out of control this year.
I meant to call our pedi before the holiday weekend, but forgot.
Re: bug spray
We have been searching for a safe and effective bug spray for a while. We started with California Baby and soon discovered that it didn't work on our girls at all. They got bitten really badly even slathered in that stuff.
Then I asked their daycare teacher if there was a bug spray that the other kids use that seems to actually work, and she showed me the one kid's CVS-brand bug spray. It comes in a green-and-black spray can and it has no DEET and the active ingredient is citronella. We've been using that, and when we are really vigilant about making sure every inch is covered and that we reapply every so often, the girls don't get any bites (except on their scalps and faces, which we don't spray/slather). So ... I'd recommend the green CVS-brand spray. If it works on our sweet-as-honey girls in the mosquito-filled wilds of Houston, it can work on anyone anywhere.
I recently got those bug-citronella BRACELETS from Target (not cheap, but whatever) and I pin one on Ava's back with a safety pin when she goes to the park, plays outside at dusk, etc.
Not a bug bite yet, and she's a sweet nibble ;-)
I hate putting the chemicals on her if I can avoid it, and this seems to be working.
