Yes...UGH...another STTN question

Right now, we're still waking the other one, which is always Sydney, when the first one wakes to eat.  Our feeding schedule varies a bit in terms of the exact time that they eat, but they're pretty much following a 3-hour feeding schedule during the day and then once they go to bed at 8:30PM, they start (on their own) more of a 4-hour schedule.  We always have to wake Sydney though and I'm wondering if she'd just sleep through it. I'm reading, and trying to follow, HSH for twins, which says to wake the other one.  Do I just keep doing what I'm doing and they'll eventually sleep through the middle of the night bottle?  We finally got them to stop waking at 2,3,or 4AM just to sleep on our chests the rest of the night.  [Thank you Goldie, it was that we needed to increase the dosage on the reflux meds.]  But we're still craving sleep...  I'm so jealous of you ladies (kimarino!) who have LOs sleeping through the night!  I'm back to work now and would give anything for a longer stretch of sleep at night.

  • We stopped waking the other one at about 5 weeks just to see how long they could go independently.  Turns out some days one could go up to 6 or 7 hours!  I would try letting them go and seeing what happens!

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

I'd try this and see what happens.  We would let Ava sleep, since she was our twin who could sleep longer.  Some night she would go all night when Gracie would still wake.  Other times it seemed like as soon as Grace was done eating and went down that Ava would wake up (which totally sucked), but give it a try and see what happens.  The waking each other sucks, mine still do that sometimes and other times they sleep through each other.

  • Also, we did Ferber at 6 months and it has worked great for us.  They were down to waking once at night and now they sleep all the way through...ot's heaven!  GL!!
  • When my babies were around 2 months we stopped waking up Layla and she slept 4-6  hours at a time!  At 5 months we did ferber (they were waking up once at night for a feeding out of habit) and it only took one night for Layla and 3 for Ethan.  It was so hard to listen to them cry but man oh man was it worth it!  My pediatrician said that with his experience there's a magic window between 4-6 months of age with ferber being successful.  GL!
  • When the girls turned 9 weeks old my DH was home with me for a good 2 month stretch, so we decided at this point to stop waking the second baby. We were assigned a baby each night (we changed every other night) and you got up with your baby to feed. Since one would go almost 5 hours at night every other night each of us got a pretty good amount of sleep.

At 12 weeks old we started sleep training to sttn 12 hours without getting up to eat any more. We stuck with this being assigned a baby for the night during that training. Our one girl was able to do it about a week earlier than her sister. So once we had one down for the whole night, we switched who got up with the other for another week until she was down all night as well.

At this point I agree with PP's you could let the one sleep longer and not wake her, it would be better if you can take turns with this, so you both get as much sleep as possible.
