I'm freaking out. RE office called. My RE reviewed my third u/s from yesterday and is now requesting that I get a higher level u/s than what is used in the RE office to get a closer look at the second sac. I was finally starting to relax and now I am back to freak out stage. I'm terrified that she thinks I am going to lose the other baby.
Re: Talk me down ladies....
I'd call her and ask for the details. It could be anything and you probably won't do yourself any good by thinking of all the possibilities.
Hugs hun. Definitely call.
I'm confused, if you were pregnant with ID twins, there wouldn't be a second sac.
So, are the identical or fraternal?
For what it's worth, my identical twins (that I miscarried at 9 weeks) have still not totally absorbed and it hasn't caused any issues at all.
ETA: To ditto what Kimarino posted, at my 5w u/s we just saw two sacs and thought it was twins. When I went back for my 6w u/s we saw 3 heartbeats ? identical twins and a fraternal triplet.
There was nothing on my 5 weeks scan that would have indicated one sac contained more than 1 baby. I even asked my RE to go back and review to see - and there was nothing ? and he even commented that it is not possible to know that early.
I am just really finding it odd that you had a doctor tell you that you were carrying ID twins at 5 weeks....
I am also really confused. At 5 weeks, we didn't even know we were having identical twins. We just saw one sac with what looked to be one yolk sac inside. It wasn't until 6 weeks that we saw two heartbeats in the same sac.
If your twins had separate sacs (which means that egg split super early - I believe before day 3), you wouldn't have known that they were identical until after birth with a DNA test. There's just no way to know in utero when there are two gestational sacs. After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
Yolk sac. two yolks sac inside one gestational sac = mono twins. Why does everyone keep questioning me on this? Would someone lie about having ID twins? I am sorry if I am not describing it right. I'm sorry I even asked for help- geez.
It is just confusing - especially when the proper terminology isn't being used.
And, like I mentioned (as did Kim) my RE said it is impossible to know about ID twins at 5 weeks. So this whole this is very interesting to me.
Also, I know what ID twins are - I carried them for 9 weeks hon...
That is what I was told by the ultrasound technician and my RE nurse.
