C-Section Momas and 2nd pregnancy

I had a C-section with the twins, but would really like to give birth vaginally this time. I am not sure if this is a safe option, but in the UK where I am from it is commonly practiced.  Anybody have a C-section first and go on to have a vaginal birth for the 2nd pregnancy?

  • I will be attempting a vbac if I ever go into labor. ;-)

  • A few moms on here did vbac (Vaginal birth after c-section).  I tried but it didn't work, ended up with a second C.

Ask the doc if you're a good candidate to try it.  The risks are significantly lower than having more surgery.  Some insurance companies and hospitals do not pay for them / allow them to be performed so find out before you get too hopeful.  Most docs will not induce for a vbac so they'll likely schedule a just in case c/s.  Find out about monitoring, if it's wireless so you can walk or if you're wired to the bed.  Ask lots & lots & lots of questions and in the end go w/your gut feeling.  Good luck :-)

  • Check with your OB. Mine would not do VBACs, had I been even vaguely interested in one.

  • I had a VBAC for my second.  While there is a risk of uterine rupture, it's actually not much higher than a risk of uterine rupture with any vaginal labor (less than 1% risk) and I have to say, my recovery was much easier even though I had a very reasonable recovery from my c-section.  I would do a lot of research on your own, but do know that VBAC is generally considered quite safe for both mom and baby.

  • If I would've been a better candidate to VBAC, I would've tried it. I say go for it. Wink

  • I will be attempting a VBAC this time if things go as planned. Fortunately, my Dr is very laid back and didn't even hesitate when I mentioned it to him. Find out what your hospital and Dr allow. Some hospitals have a strict no-VBAC policy.
