Thoughts on Paxton

Paxton is one of our top 3 choices for our boy and we're in the process of trying to choose.  I was a bit surprised to see how unpopular it was in my babynames.com list.  I like the sound of the name, think the nn "Pax" is cute, believe it will grow well with the child, and love that "Pax" is Latin for peace. My friends have responded really well to it.

So what are your thoughts... yay or nay?  If you don't like it, why?  Bad connotation? Just not your style?

ETA: Any name suggestions based off of my name list would be appreciated!  We like classic/vintage names that are hopefully out of the top 100.

Nay. To me it just sounds like a product name or something and a little too trendy at the same time, like jumping on the bandwagon with the ubiquitous Jaxon.

I don't like it at all. It reminds me of tampax, especially the nn Pax.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Paxton.  It was one of the names of the sailors that was killed at Pearl Harbor and is featured at the memorial.  We went to Pearl Harbor when we were TTC and I fell totally in love with the name Paxton (and Pax as a nickname), but DH vetoed it.  I still love it and might use it as a middle name for a third boy if we have one...and if I can convince DH.

I think it is pretty cool. There is a baby in DS playgroup with this name.

My cousin's name is Paxton Arthur. We all thought it was odd when he was born, but 21 years later it still fits him. We call him Pax now, but when he was younger we called him P-man and Pax Man.

Actually, Paxton is the only name on that list I don't like...everything else is pretty classic/vintage. Paxton is a surname turned modern first name, and all I can think about is Bill Paxton in True Lies, so no...not liking it.

MN will likely be George in honor of my grandfather.

Thanks for all the opinions, ladies.  It was good perspective and gave me lots to think about. I never thought it would be quite this hard to decide on a name!

I used to live in Paxton, MA!!  Plus the Jolie-Pitt clan has a Pax.
