Clicky poll: If you had your membranes stripped

One of my girlfriends is 38.5 weeks pregnant and her doctor mentioned stripping her membranes at her next appointment and she is curious about it's effectiveness.  So please participate and I will send her the link to this page.  Thanks![Poll]

Re: Clicky poll: If you had your membranes stripped

  • I said "other." I had mine stripped and went into labor two and a half days latter. It didn't happen within the 48 hours right after.

  • I voted "other"  Had them stripped on a Wednesday and went into labor the next Saturday.  3 days.

  • Had them stripped several times and never went into labor on my own.
  • I had them stripped twice.  Once at 39 weeks when I had a fingertip dilation and a little softening.  Once at my 40 week apt when I had a "healthy" 1cm and soft and stretchy.  I was in labor within 12 hours of the second stripping and she was here 32 hours later....

  • it was like 4 days later for me
  • I had them stripped at 39 weeks and went into labor like TWO HOURS later.

  • Had my membranes stripped at 40 weeks 1 day, and went into labor 6 hours later and my daughter arrived 5 hours after that. ALTHOUGH I was already 4 cm dilated and 100% effaced at the time..so that probably helped.
  • started having contractions 3 hours later.

  • I picked other. With DS, I had it done at 40 w 6 d, and was in labor the next morning, so I believe it worked that time (and MW stretched me from 2 to 4 cms).?

With DD, I had it done at 39 w (2-3 cms), and it didn't work. Most of the stories of this procedure failing that I see on here are when it was done before the EDD. It doesn't induce labor, only encourages labor in a mother ready to go anyway. ?

  • I voted for Yes it worked and it was within 48 hours... although I went into labor 18 hours later.

ditto! I had mine stripped at 37, 38, 39...then induced because of low water.

  • Had mine stripped twice, and nothing.  Had accupuncture and labor induction massage and was in "silent" labor and 4 cm dilated two days later.

Eh, he stripped them (without asking/telling me first) around 39 weeks, and  I didn't go into labor. I THINK he did it at my last appointment as well, and I went into labor (water broke) the next morning; however, I was 40w3d at the time so it was probably imminent anyway.

  • Didn't go into labour until a week or so later. I don't think I will opt-in for that the next time around. I hear it only "works" if your body is ready to begin with.
  • i had mine stripped on a tuesday. i felt crampy and thought maybe something would happen. but wed and thursday i felt fine..but thursday evening i got my sudden burst of energy and all day id been eating spicy food, drinking red raspberry leaf tea, had sex that night and friday night i went into labor.  not sure if stripping my membranes did anything or not.

  • Other: had them stripped and went into labor about 55 hours later.
  • I had mine stripped and went into labour within two HOURS!  I was 3 days away from my due date and 4cm dilated, 75% effaced.  The doctor said my body was clearly ready for it anyway.  But as I was getting checked into the hospital, I told the nurse about getting my membranes stripped, and she said, "Having second thoughts about that now, aren't ya?"
  • I responded other because I went into labor on my own but had my membranes stripped to speed up labor. It didn't work; I had LO about 20 hours later.
