Parenting Magazines

Any moms out there that subscribe to certain Parenting magazines. Are there any specifically for new parents OR just the early years (birth - 2yrs)?

Re: Parenting Magazines

  • I found them to be a BIG waste of money... Half the time, they same the same thing over and over, and if there was anything new, it contradicted what my DD's pediatrician told me. I had subscribed to practically ALL of the "freebies" that came from my OB/GYN and refused to re-subscribe after my two years was up.

  • I used to get Family Fun b/c I'm a teacher and preschool director and loved looking through the magazine for ideas for my classroom and church.  I will definitely start that subscription up again once LO is here.  It has great stuff from baby on up.

I also just got a subscription to Parenting: The Early Years (I think that's what it's called).  I think it's new.  It was only $12 for a year so I thought why not try it out?  I haven't received my first issue yet, but I know a lot of moms get the regular Parenting magazine so I'm guessing it'll be pretty good.

  • I just got the Parenting:Early Years in the mail.. It's only $12.. but I was just wondering if it is worth it.. and if it is geared to baby or toddler..
  • I've been told if you read one, you've read them all.

The only magazines I subscribe to or have been signed up for (as a gift) : Real Simple (LOVE it!) and Nintendo Power, along with a few tattoo magazines.

I highly recommend Real Simple. There's a lot of great stuff in there for moms!

I agree! I love me my Real Simple!

  • Thank you girls! I know, I love Real Simple..
  • I got Parenting Magazine for free during DSs first year.  Considering it was free, it was nice mindless reading for work in the middle of the night.  I would not have paid for it.  My DH hated it (he's a SAHD) and  said they should rename it "mothering".  THey have this "super dad" section praising dads who are involved.  DH was a tad offended by the magazine...he was right, it is geared toward mothers :).

  • I got a free subscription to American Baby with my first pregnancy.  If this is your first baby (and maybe even if it's not- I don't know the rules or how they know what kids you have) you can get a free one too.  I wouldn't pay money for it though.  Once in a while they had a good article, but it seemed like most of their articles were about recommended products and such.  Pretty much just advertisements in my mind.  A lot of mags are like this IMO.

  • My mom has the cheap subscription through her work, so she bought scrips for Parenting (The Early Years), and Parents. I really like Parents magazine, but not Parenting. I don't agree with everything in Parents (especially their sleep training advice), but I like their recipes, and I love the back page where they write silly stuff kids say. Cracks me up every time.
