Potty Training

Potty for Diaper Bag? Car?

I have put DS on potty's that we didn't have a ring for by just putting him backwards and holding him and he was fine - didn't seem scared at all.  Of course a Target or Walmart might be totally different but just curious what potty's you have in your diaper bag and in your car?

Re: Potty for Diaper Bag? Car?

  • We have this travel potty and really like it.  I don't use it in public restrooms, he's fine sitting on the big potty.  But it can be used as a potty ring so for those who were scared it would be good.  We just use it for the car on long trips or out on the beach or other place where there isn't a bathroom close by.  It has a carry bag, and would fit in a large diaper bag.

I have also seen folding potty rings for public restrooms, but you couldn't use them in the car or anything.

  • When we get to that point, we have a Bjorn Little Potty that we initially bought for DD1 to introduce her to the potty, and we'll keep that in the car (it's smaller than the regular Bjorn potties and one piece -- no separate bowl).

We have a larger potty that's more comfortable that she uses at home, but the small one will work for times when a bathroom isn't available.

  • I just wipe down the seat with a wipe and use this https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mommys-Helper-Cushie-Travel-Potty-Seat/10088173

It is soft not like the harder ones that fold up and DD really likes it. She actually will demand to take it out of the bag and put it on herself.

  • I have one of those folding potty seats for public restrooms but we dont really use it anymore, It was really helpful for the beginning of training when she would take a while to go but now its just easier to layer up a public seat with lots of TP and a liner. I like to avoid public restrooms though so we keep a potty chair (safety first) in the car. Its so much easier than having to worry about DD touching everything in a public restroom, so we use that when we can, obviously I dont leave the mall to go to the parking lot to use it but its there for if we're driving down the road and she says she needs to go so we dont have to count on finding a clean gas station (we are on the go a lot!).

***ETA oh! and the one I keep in the car has a lid (so I dont have to clean it right away in the parking lot if its just pee) to prevent spillage and I line it with grocery bags for a quick easy clean up (especially helpful for when she goes #2 in it!)

ITA - this is the best, we used it many times this weekend.
