NBR: I am in a cooking rut

I have no motivation lately to cook, it doesn't help that it has been so hot and humid.

It is also a challenge because DH doesn't eat red meat, pork or seafood. So basically I am stuck to making chicken, turkey and pasta.

Does anyone else get in these ruts?? If so, how do you get out of them.

Re: NBR: I am in a cooking rut

  • I was in one receantly, then I found some free Cooking Light magazines and that has helped a lot.  Also, I go to the farmers market for seasonal produce.  The items at the market are always changing so that keeps me out of cooking ruts.  I am anxiously awaiting tomatoes to come into season. There are recipes of my cooking adventures in my blog (link in siggy).
  • Thanks, I just got a subscription to Cooking Light. I cant wait to get it. I might just have to check out the farmers market this weekend.

  • A lot of Cooking Light's recipes are online so that could get you started.  The only bad part is they are mixed in with stuff from other magazines (like Southern Living) so not all are "healthy".  Just keep an eye on the recipe itself and it says what magazine it came from.  I like Southern Living magazine's recipes but not when I'm trying to eat healthy.

    This, but all the time!!

  • I was in a bad rut a couple of weeks ago. I guess I'm really lucky because my husband will eat anything. Even if he thinks it's a little strange he'll still try it.

It was recommended by a few girls from here (& TN) to check out The Pioneer Woman. I'm glad I did because there were a few recipes that really got me excited about making them. She has a pretty decent section on chicken.

Last night I made the Mexican Lasagna from the cooking area of her website - it was so good! It calls for ground beef, but you could always use ground chicken or turkey - then it would be healthier also.

It's been getting hot here also which makes me not want to cook a lot either. There's nothing I want to do less then heat up the oven which then heats up the house.

Maybe some quick stir fry's would be good for you guys? They can be pretty healthy & cook so quickly it won't heat up the house too much.

  • I am with you in the cooking rut.  I've been in it for a while and can't get out!!!
