Did Clomid mess up your cycle?

Hi everyone! I'm a lurker and have read a lot of helpful things on this board. A little about me: I have PCOS and will usually not have a period without taking hormones.I have been on three cycles of Clomid and did not O on any of them. I was sent to a RE and had an initial consulation with her. We decided to wait a few months so that I could try to lose some weight first.

My last Clomid cycle was Feb/Mar. In April, AF came on her own and lasted for 23 days. Then in June AF came and lasted 18 days. The second time my MD put me on progesterone to stop the bleeding.

I was just wondering if this happened to any of you after taking Clomid. I feel like it has totally messed up my body.

  • Yes, unfortunately.  I'm sorry that's happened.  It may be that you actually did ovulate, just later than they check you?  Have you been checked for polyps, fibroids, cysts, etc?

  • My doctor did a physical exam and said that I didn't have any polyps and that everything looked fine. I had an ultrasound several months ago and I do have several small cysts on my ovaries.

    Thanks for the response.

  • Hehe sorry, I worded that wrong. :) I mean any like big cysts that might be causing the bleeding.  Maybe you could ask for a saline ultrasound?  It's not reliable to check for growths with just a physical exam.

You might also want to ask about a lap/hyst.  There could be something in there that can't be seen on an ultrasound or with a physical exam.

I was messed up by Clomid too, IMO.  I've never been regular, but with diet and exercise (have mild PCOS too) I've noticed a big positive change in my body's ability to do what it should be doing.  THEN I took Clomid.  Big mistake.  Never O'd, had super long "cycles" then had to end each attempt with Provera.  My doc wanted me to keep trying (why???) but I refused.  At this point I'm trying natural fertility treatments and doing my best to get my body where it should be health-wise.  Sorry you had this experience!  Maybe time to change treatment plans?  GL to you!
