Stomach virus and fever?

DS woke up vomiting Tuesday morning.  It was happening about once an hour and he was very lethargic.  I wondered if it might be an ear infection so I took him to the pedi.  She looked at him and said it was a stomach virus.  He seemed like he felt better yesterday afternoon and no more vomiting.  Today he feels good, but this evening he has started running a fever (about 101).  Is that normal?  He has only had one stomach virus before and it was alot more vomiting and no fever. TIA.
