Another breast pump question

How often do you need to change the rubbery white valve piece on the breast pump?  Is this a filter?

I washed mine every night but only replaced them when they ripped. Instructions said just to swish around in hot, soapy water, rinse, and let air dry.

Ditto PP, it's the valve membrane. Running the faucet water through the valve will wear them out faster.  I heard they last about 2 months if you are EPing, but I haven't replaced mine yet.
