Is this something a lot of you do? It's unsafe, says not to do it right on the label, yet a bunch of you encouraged JazzAirforceWife to 'go for it'. Why? This worries me.
She is going to be right there next to her LO, so I don't see any risk in that. And yes, my DS sometimes naps propped up in his boppy, in his PNP right next to the couch in the living room.

I think that there is a difference between a LO sleeping in the boppy on her own, ie at night in the crib etc. compared to someone who sees/watches their LO and he or she falls asleep there. My LO falls asleep on the boppy all the time before I even have realized she's asleep. This doesn't mean that I leave her alone to sleep there. Lets face it, we also know that LOs shouldn't spend too much time in car seats, yet they do, nor should they sleep at night by themselves in swings and bouncy seats, yet they do. I applaud the boppy makers for giving this warning, but lets face it, it's just to cover their a**'s if a lawsuit were to come up, they aren't any more inherently dangerous than other baby products.
I would say sleeping in it at night would be unsafe. While you're watching them... not so much. LO naps in her boppy next to me on the couch sometimes during the day while I sit next to her and bump! What's unsafe about that?
Naps right next to you while you're awake and watching her = fine.
Sleeping at night while you are also sleeping = not fine.
This.
Not to mention, there's a lot of things on here that others do with their children that I would never do. The bump is great but you should take advice with a grain of salt.

I disagree. A carseat, swing, bouncy seat, etc is something that little one is strapped into securely and not a pillow that they can slide off of and end up with their face buried in it.
I think you're taking the "sleep" part of the warning too literally. They mean more like no unsupervised overnight sleeping. As long as someone is watching over the baby, there's no physical difference between the baby sitting in it and sleeping in it that makes it more dangerous because you aren't going to let it go unnoticed if they slide down.

My thoughts exactly.

True, but I meant in the context of improper use, ie not using proper security straps, leaving them alone in those items for long periods etc. Basically use beyond their intentions.
Hm. I took the warning to be for the risk of baby's chin tilting down and restricting their airways, in addition to the obvious suffocation risk. Not to mention the fact that they could slide off and hit their head. If they are sitting right there with you, that's one thing. But you're soaking wet in a tub? And Vegandy- Definitely agree about people doing things here that you wouldn't do yourself. I was just surprised that no one else saw a safety issue.
I guess I am a bad parent- I let LO sleep in the boppy when I'm sleeping too. This is the only way he will sleep longer than 10 minutes. I know I need to stop doing it, but no one gets any sleep otherwise.

Ditto. The only way he will sleep is if he is swaddled and pinned tightly in that thing. Although, I've never noticed him sliding down either as PP's have suggested.
I let our LO sleep propped up on the boppy on the couch. However, this is during the day for short periods when I'm right next to her. I've never had her on it at night or anything though. I guess I haven't noticed her sleeping any better on it or off, but after she eats it's nice to prop her up to minimize the spitting up.
As long as you are near LO and supervising him/her then it is fine. They shouldn't be left alone while sleeping in the Boppy and shouldn't sleep overnight but the occasional supervised nap isn't going to hurt as long as you are vigilant.

We had to do the same thing, I've finally managed to break her from it with rolled up swaddling blankets, and now she can handle the crib. We did this with our pediatricians approval (they preferred that to her being in our bed.) Now we just go with what works for us.
I have the boppy newborn lounged that DS sometimes takes daytime naps on while I'm awake to watch him, it's a tadbetter for sleeping than the regular boppy

And as far as no sleeping because their chin tilts down and restricts airways.....it doesn't do it anymore than when your LO falls asleep in your carseat on the way home. In fact, I would say that the head falls farther down in the carseat than when I lay her on the boppy pillow. But....do I pull over and wake her up in the car when she dozes off on the way home? No.
My LO is napping in the boppy as we speak. As long as it is supervised, I don't see any problem with it. I wouldn't just leave her there to sleep at night (while I'm sleeping) though...
We're having a very lazy Saturday for the first time since DD was born....DH, fur baby Buddy and DD and I are all in bed
