I feel like I can't leave the house again......

I did the 3 day PTing with DS starting last Saturday.  He seemed to get it and hasn't had any accidents at the house since the first day.  Yesterday (day 4) DH and I decided to try to go grocery shopping to see how DS was.  He peed right before leaving the house.  He asked to go potty about 1/2 way through shopping.  DH brought him to the potty but he wouldn't go.  I noticed when we were leaving the store that he had an accident.  It was probably an hour since he last peed. 

I'm pretty sure that DS was scared to use a public toilet and now I am worried that I can never leave the house all summer. I know I can put a pull up on him but we are using those for naps/nighttime right now and refer to them as "night time big boy undies".  I think if we are going to leave the house in them, it will confuse him.  Was I just pushing my luck by taking him out so soon after beginning PTing?  How long should I reasonably expect to spend confind to the house?

Do you have a travel potty?  We have one that folds up and I keep in the diaper bag that I can use on the potty when we are out and about.  Also when we go out, I have her wear the  thinker training pants rather than regular underwear...it seems to hold more, just in case.  We too only use the pull-up for bed (she actually won't wear them for nap, so we use the thicker trainers there).  We also have a potty that we can take with us for the car for longer outings...so maybe he could try that if he doesn't want to use the public bathroom.  Hope that helps.  BTW - we trained last Friday, and on Monday we started taking short trips out each day...I just can't stay home all the time.

I just started the 3 day yesterday. I had to go out today. I have a potty in the car that she went in after we came out of target but then had an accident.

I don't necessarily think taking him out on Day Four was too ambitious.

We went out on Day Four shopping. DS successfully pottied at the store. I'm not sure if you're doing standing/sitting for peeing.

DH had DS stand on the public toilet's seat (without lifting it) to pee. He seemed receptive of this. Since then, DS has really enjoyed using the urinal at public restrooms (Costco has a floor one so it's just his size).

I don't think you should stay home all summer. He'll never really get over the fear of using a public restroom without exposure to it.

It might help if Dad uses it in front of him so that he sees it's okay to use.

You could also plan to have him go before leaving and take him on short trips if you don't want to use longer public trips for a while. I would definitely plan to keep/bring extra shorts and underwear in the car for a while just in case.
