What does 'seconds' mean?

In regards to CDing.  I'm assuming it means used, but why not just say used?  Sorry if it's a dumb question!  :)

    It doesn't mean used, it means new with cosmetic flaws that don't affect function. Usually it is wonky stitching or a mis-aligned snap.

    I've gotten a few seconds--some just had wonky velcro tabs (still completely usable) and some were OS pockets without the snaps that make it OS--so they're only...one size: big.
