Babies on the Brain

So this is my big whiney post

My SIL is due July 6. My MIL was not planing on going out to SIL's house until she was in the hospital either in labor or had just had her baby.

MIL was supposed to watch the boys this weekend so we could go out of town with friends to Napa. Well my MIL called today to say she was jumping on the next plane to Detroit because my SIL just had her OB appt and she is 1 1/2 cm dialated and had 1 contraction on her NST and SIL is sure she is going to go into labor any minute.

So now we have no babysitter for the boys this weekend, plane tickets and hotel reservations paid for that we can't use.

1 1/2 cm dilation and 1 farking contraction does not mean you are going to have a freaking baby yet.  If she doesn't have this baby this weekend I am going to throat punch her myself-pregnant or not.

Oh and SIL is using the name I was reserving if I ever had a daughter--which is also my grandma's name and she knew that I planned to name a girl this.  Petty, sure. But pisses me off none the less.

  • I wish I could babysit for you.

    And use the name regardless.

  • I'm sorry, I have to be honest, I don't really see what your MIL did wrong here. Sure, your SIL might not deliver this weekend. But if she did, and your MIL waited, she would miss it, and that's clearly not what either of them wants.

You lost a babysitter. I'm not sure that equals possibly missing the birth of one's grandchild. I'm sorry your weekend plans are ruined but...I can't say that I blame your MIL at all.

The name thing is annoying, if it was done on purpose, to be sure. I would be ticked too.

  • Use the name anyway.  My sister and I both have a son named Jack.

I really should. They are pronouncing it the "latin" way which makes it different, right? ;)

  • I agree - still use the name. If you and DH agreed to use that name for a girl, and it has special meaning to you - USE IT.

I'm not pissed at MIL. I'm annoyed at the whole situation. I'm annoyed that my trip which we paid plenty of money for is screwed up when she might not have a baby for a week.

  • As someone who was 3cm dialiated at 36 weeks and didn't deliver until just shy of 42 weeks (on the 2nd try at an induction), I am annoyed for you.  I hope SIL doesn't get too disappointed when it doesn't happen this weekend.
