My mom loves our gDiapers. They are not as fluffy as other diapers, I think. But she likes them because they have the liner and you can reuse them instead of washing so many. Not that she does the washing. I think the biodegradable inserts fit/work better than the cloth inserts, but they are ok.
I got 6 pair plus 4 packs of the biodegradable inserts on Diapers.com for $89.99, and I got an additional 15% off with a new customer coupon code. (I have referral codes for $10 off too, if you are a new customer). They also have the cloth inserts, but they are regular price. Just the pants are $59.99.
I'm all about variety...so I have a mixture of pretty much everything. Fitteds with covers, pockets, all in ones/all in twos. I'd lurk a lot and look back through the posts...there are tons of CD posts everyday with lots of helpful info. Also check out the EFF blog....it's a good place to start.
Generally, I haven't heard many positives about G-diapers but I liked the idea of them. I am using FLIPS and GroBaby/GroVIa, both systems are similar to G-diapers in that they have a reusable cover, inserts/soakers, and a disposable option. Like G-diapers, they are considered a Hybrid option or an AI2. SO far, I would say that GroVia/GroBaby are a bit easier but the FLIPS aren't hard. I prefer the GroBaby covers I think, they are a bit more substantial. My DH can do the GroBaby ones but is a little afraid of the FLIPS. The GroBaby Soakers/inserts take much longer to dry than the FLIPS, which could be a problem if your stash was limited.
I don't have FLIP disposable options but do have the GroBaby ones and they are a nice option.
We use gdiapers with gcloth exclusively (haven't tried the disposable inserts yet) and we love them. We've never had a leak and I love that they are trim and come in sizes.

As for gDiapers, they aren't well liked around here. I've never used them so I have no personal advice to add.
