Is there seriously nothing I can do for a cough?

Honey is not cutting it. Humidifier is doing nothing. He's not sleeping at night or at nap. Tues he coughed so hard during his nap that he puked and only napped 10 min that whole day. Last night he had a fever.

My pedi's office doesn't take me seriously (whole other issue here). He was in this morning. They didn't see or hear anything. Sent him for a chest x-ray just to be sure. No results yet.

If there's nothing there (which I hope is the case) I'm not sure what to do for him.

  • My friend was told yesterday that Whooping Cough is going around our area.  I wonder if your area might also be having an outbreak.

  • We are dealing with the SAME thing.  S is miserable.  B wants to take her to the pedi. like, twice a day to get checked out.  Pedi. says it's viral and will run it's course in 10-14 days, which is nice and all, but I hate not being able to give her any relief.  She's up about every 15 minutes at night coughing and then crying because she's miserable.

Sorry - that sorta turned into my own vent.  I'm sorry you guys are there too. :(

  • Please please please don't let it be that. They haven't gotten the Pertussis vaccine bc of a family history of reactions.

Call your pedi back and mention that you're concerned about whooping cough and ask if that has been tested for specifically.

Also, DD had a bad cough recently and they actually gave her two breathing treatments in the office and sent us home with a nebulizer to treat her at home with.  It *really* helped with her wheezing and coughing.

  • I'd call the pedi re: whooping cough.  DS had it and the cough lasted about a year (no joke).

  • Ditto checking him for pertussis. CA declared an epidemic (they've had more than 20% of the general national total this year alone in confirmed cases) and our city in AZ is sending out little reminders in utility bills to be checked/immunized because of outbreaks.

  • The more I think about it the more I think you should call again.  Especially because everything you've tried isn't working.
