I'm trying to figure out what I truly need to put on the mattress of the crib.
The mattress we have is waterproof (so vinyl I guess!?!?). So do I put a mattress pad, then a fitted sheet and possibly I could put a sheet protector on top, right? That way if there's an accident in the night the only thing I would have to change would be the sheet protector?
Or is there a better system to all this?
Thanks!
Re: Layers in the crib?
Someone mentioned an idea that I plan to try:
Mattress, waterproof mattress protector, fitted sheet, mattress pad (lays flat on top of sheet), second fitted sheet, mattress pad, third fitted sheet. This way, you can pull off the wet or soiled fitted sheet and mattress pad and still have a clean one underneath.
It may seem like overkill, but if baby has two bad spills in one night, you are only removing the sheets and do not have to worry about replacing them until morning.
I just put a flat mattress pad down and then the fitted sheet.
The idea of a few fitted sheets layered with mattress pads is good in theory but our fitted sheets fit so snugly that I would never be able to do that. That being said, DS has only had 2-3 accidents in almost 2 years.
I've read that you are not supposed to have several layers since that makes it less firm and increases risk of suffocation. To each her own on that comfort level.
Either you will need a mattress pad then sheet or sheet then sheet protector (like ultimate crib sheet). There really should not be any need for more than that.
