Pregnancy/back/hip question

Is it possible that, given all the hormones and shifting etc going on right now, one of my hips has slipped enough that it's noticeably out of alignment?

Weird, I know.

But I've always had a lot of natural turn out because all 3 of my arches are flat, and I'm noticing that my left leg is even more turned out in the last week or so, but my right leg isn't. Then when I was sitting with both legs out today, I realized that I'm either favoring my left leg and sitting so that it looks further out (it looks longer, if that makes any sense), or it really has slipped. DH says he can kind of see it, but also that he's very suggestible, and so it might be that he only sees it because I think I see it.

FWIW, it's my left side that's been having the killer sciatica, but I've never had a doctor find hip dysplasia or anything worth noting that's "off" about my hips.

So do I try to get in with a chiropractor? Leave my eyes closed while stretching and working out? Have a cookie and pretend I never noticed it? Fix me, EFFers, please!

Re: Pregnancy/back/hip question

  • Well, the hormones make all of your cartilage and joints more able to expand, so I would say it is very possible that you'd be more likely to throw something out of whack, etc (since your body wants your hips to expand anyway).  Chiro all the way!  I pph chiropractors.

  • I can't fix you, but I'm so sorry you're dealing with sciatica!  I can't decide if that, the constant heartburn or the restless legs were the worst part of being pregnant.  I have some stretches that are good for it, but not sure if they are pregnancy safe.

Basically, just wanted to offer sympathy!

  • eat a cookie, call your chiro, and then get a massage, in that exact order.  And then PIP so that we can diagnose you.

This.  But I think you should also eat a cookie.  Cookies are always part of the solution.

  • Call the Chiro! I did that and some PT and it cured my sciatica! It was so bad I could barely stand on the one leg when I started, but after a few treatments it cured my pain and I haven't had any since!

  • Bear with me as this is very vague information.  However, it comes from when I was at the end of my first trimester with DS over a year ago.  I was having horrible sciatica.  It was so bad I was crying and my usual tricks were alleviating it.  Anyway, the phone call went into my sister who is a PT.  At the time she made me sit and had DH check if one leg was longer than the other, as that would determine which course of action she would recommend.  I don't know much more about it, as my legs were the same length and it didn't pertain to me.  She just said that sometimes when women are pregnant that XYZ can happen and the leg thing was an indicator.  So not much help other than it is worth a call to your chiro as you could definitely have something going on.

  • Chiro and cookies definitely!
  • This totally makes sense and is very likely actually.  Good luck.  I know how bad that can hurt.
