Fabric for unpaper towels?

Which fabric would you recommend for DIY unpaper towels?  I need something sturdy and absorbant...my husband is the king of messes!  My cheap-o Target wash clothes just aren't cutting it anymore.

Butler, I love the ones you did!  Care to share your method? :)

  • I found a blog where someone used Birdseye flatfolds. I might try this, I have a few that are beyond burpcloth/baby use but perfect for this!
  • I used flannel for one side and terry cloth on the other side.  (the flannel was given to me and the terry cloth was real cheap, like clearance at hancock fabric!)

All I did was cut the squares (I cut them 12x12, so they ended up about 11.5"x11.5") and sewed almost all around.  Left a small area un-sewn, turned then inside out and stitched around the edge (making sure to close up the hole).  Easy peasy.  And then I put snaps on all 4 corners (2 corners have the female snaps, the opposite 2 have the male snaps, so they snap together! lol)
