I strive not to use baby talk, but just to speak in an enthusiastic voice. So we don't do the "googoogaga" kind of baby talk. I guess the one exception is when we are repeating back what DS "says" (which they say is good).

I talk to them normally because baby-talk seems weird. I have nicknames for them like Sweet Pea for DS and Gorgeous for DD but I talk to them like I talk to DH. And baby talk makes me cringe...at least when someone tries to do that with DD/DS.
There are a few words that we do probably screw around with, like 'fishies' (there's a rhyme we did that used fishie, so that just kind of sprang from that) but otherwise, we don't really use baby talk.

I speak proper "adult" words to him but in a ridiculously gushy voice. What does that say?

Well crap. Then I clicked the wrong one. Correct words and all but in a sing-songy way. The melody of language is interesting to kids so I spice it up to make me SUPER interesting. Not so much anymore since my kid is 3 but still...
we went to the pool on Monday and saw the oddest thing -- there was a family where the mom did not speak to her youngest (maybe 1 1/2-2 yr old) at all, just gave directions to the older brother. "Pick her up. Is she sleepy? Does she want a drink?" I don't know if she was in "time out" or something, but I didn't get that vibe.

We did a lot of baby talk when she was super tiny. I couldn't help myself. I don't do much of it now though. Sometimes when she babbles at me I babble back at her, even though I really feel like she should only hear real words come out of my mouth. Again - can't resist.
I said mixture because I do the baby talk voice with mostly normal words (like others, I may say fishie instead of fish, doggy instead of dog, etc). Studies have shown that babies pick up on language better if it's in a higher voice with a melodic delivery. Which is why most people instinctively talk that way to babies. LOL

I talk to them like adults but in a bit of a higher more enthusiastic voice (well to Ariel anyway) The one exception is before they start babbling I would do the mamamama babababa thing to encourage them to start babbling.
This was how my mom was with us so it's just my thing. And after hearing my mother in law with her nigh nigh's (good night) and her ah dah's (all done) and putting on their bumbles (pajamas) I just want to rip my ears off so I won't do it to my kids!

I guess I consider that baby talk... that's what I do. But I'm not opposed to "doggie" instead of "dog"

In addition to normal speaking, we use lolspeek type phrases...like "you haz a toof!"
we can't help it...we're from the internet.
11 months
i say things like potty, fishy, doggy, kitty...i like words that end in 'y'
but i do that with every one...so maybe i just always talk baby talk?
This is awesome. And I want to use internet as my country of origin from now on.
This is pretty much what I do also.

We say NomNom for food, and have followed Saxton lead w/ "woof woof"s, "vroom vroom"s, ect. A convo with Saxton goes like this:
Saxton- "Oh, wow! Dat vroomvroom *gibberish* beepbeeps!"
Mom- "Oh! I see that truck go vroomvroom! He honked his horn, and made it go beep beep, didn't he?!"
Saxton- "Yeah! Bye twuck!"
