nap question

Is your over 1 y/o still taking 2 naps/day? How/when did they drop it if not?

We have been on vacation for 2 weeks and Addison has missed a nap almost every day & I was just talking to DCP and she was saying she was thinking of *trying* to get them to drop a nap and see how it goes and I told her we basically have been anyway... I just don't know if it's ok to do at this age though, as I know their sleep is pertinent to development when they are young. Is that still the case?

Re: nap question

  • My 1 y/o is still napping 2x a day.  He seems no where ready to drop his morning nap as he is begging for sleep at 9AM.  My 3 y/o dropped her morning nap when she was 15 months. At that time she took a longer afternoon nap.  I think you should look at the overall sleep picture when making the decision.  Look to see if your child without that nap is still acting happy, well rested, etc.  Some questions I would ask myself:  By dropping the one nap, will DC still be getting the age appropriate amount of sleep?  Does the afternoon nap become longer with the absence of the morning nap?  Is it affecting night sleep (for better or for worse)?

  • DD dropped to 1 nap per day right around a year.  She's never been a big sleep lover, though.

Thanks! Great points! She sleeps about 12 hours at night usually so I know she's getting "enough"  sleep there. I will try and see how she does. That's basically what I told DCP too. I said if she is cranky or stumbling around (drunk tired walk) then she still needs that 2nd nap.
