how do you clean your...

toilet brush & it's holder?  mine gets so nasty, so I'm considering running it with the dishes, but something about that seems gross...???  Aside from pitching it & buying a new one, what are your suggestions?  (I normally buy the cheap plastic crap from Target)

Re: how do you clean your...

  • Honestly, I pitch it and buy a new one....Its an EF option, but it gets used for a long time, so I don't feel terrible about it.... I think if I stuck it in my dishwasher, I would never put anything I'd eat off in there again.

That's why I'm grossed out by the thought of it...  I guess I just need to get a new one!

  • I would probably just set it in the bathtub (or shower) and squirt it off with some bleach water.  Let it sit a few hours and rinse.  Not all that EF, but probably moreso than buying new.

I actually have a nicer one now from the Container Store, so I've been scrubbing the 'bowl' part with Ecover Cream Scrub once in a while during bathroom cleaning.  The brush comes into contact with cleaner all the time, but I'll probably give it a soak every now and then.  Maybe peroxide is a better choice than bleach?

Peroxide would kill staph, but not much else.  e. coli, et al, would be left unharmed.
