Nursery Help!

I want to get paper lanterns for the nursery and hang above the crib for a mobile...Two questions:

 1. How many would you buy if you have shorter ceilings? (ie. maybe 10 ft?)

2. Which colors would you get to go with the crib bedding? My mom is making a crib skirt and changing pad out of a matching duvet that is on the twin bed in the room... (Duvet)

Here is the website I was thinking about getting the lanterns from... (Lanterns) ... I was going to get a few rounds and maybe one or two of different shapes?

Walls are a yellowish-orange striped, lighter on top and gradually get darker towards the floor..

Any advice? Thanks ladies!

  • I think a lot of color is good for babies.  It gives them something to look at when they are trying to go to sleep.  What color are the walls?  I love the duvet and think that will be very cute.  Is your mom making sheets too?  I made E's bedding and the sheets were very easy to make.  :)

ETA; I like the greens in the fabric and think that would be very cute in the room.  You could also pick up the pink or the blue too and be just fine.

Walls are Yellowish-orange striped horizontal, we took one of those color samples and just got a small can of each of the colors on the card and put the lighter on top and darkest on bottom... make sense? Its hard to explain...

We got plain color sheets... Two ecru, one yellow and one blue, like the blue in the pottery barn pictures...

  • In that case, I think I would start adding in touches of white with accessories.  IMO, the lanterns should be white, in different sizes.  It will really pop off an orange wall and help tone it down a bit.  I love modern pops of white against color though.

As far as how many lanterns.  I like odd numbers, so probably 3 or 5.  I think 5 would look good without overpowering, but I think any more than that would be too much depending on the sizes you buy.

Sounds cute.  You'll have to share pictures when you are done!

I think you explained pretty well, How many stripes are you having? Big wide stripes will look good. The smaller the width the more work of course. You are so lucky your mom's making all the baby stuff! I wish I knew how to sew, I would be sewing mine too! YAY for YELLOW! I have leftover paint from our last house so I am planning on using yellow in our open loft nursery too!

-- I would get the 3.5? lanterns in red, blue, green but not yellow so the colors can pop in the yellow background

Since they come in 10 packs you will have extra just in case something goes wrong. If not, you can always make an extra mobile and sell it later.

we have 4 stripes... my DH actually painted it when we moved in, so it was there already, which is perfect! they are wider! I will have to take a picture of it when its all done...

My DH wants white lanterns too ... so maybe I will give him one thing to contribute to the nursery since I have been picking everything else  Wink

  • Hehehe.. what? he has a say in it?! J/k! But white will be fine too! Maybe you can center one big white one with little colorful ones around it?! Just brainstorming ideas to fit in his contribution! Big Smile

  • you must post pics of nursery when you are finished.  it sounds amazing and i love the bedding!
  • We did about 5 in Bens room and it seemed to be enough but we got 1 pretty big one and worked around with the rest. I have to say I LOVE the duvet...your nursery is going to be beautiful! (and no I dont think its too much color, if you think so, add some white lanterns in there to break it up)

Still no decision on the lanterns, we are definitely doing them, but not sure if I want to do colors or white..... TBD
