Baby Names

He shot down EVERY name on the list (well, except one)

We really have not discussed names.  With my daughter, we did not pick her name until 37 weeks, 3 days before she was born.

I know it will be the same this time around.  But, I just wanted to throw some out there to see if I could shorten my ever expanding list.

He shot down every name with the exception of "Grace" which I only kinda like.

We are on team green, but if a boy - will probably be named after my husband.  He is a junior, and would like a III - ugh, not really my choice.  Whatever.

I like more "older" names.  Nothing trendy - so it is not like the names were super out there or anything.

I am just venting.

Here is the running list, anyone have any other suggestions? ETA:  My (bio) kids are Colin Stephen and Cora Evelyn

Eloise
Hazel
Meredith
Elise
Elsie
Piper
Opal
Florence (Florie)
Dorothy
Mallory
Esme
Violet
Grace
Freya

    Love love love Esme!

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how is Esme pronounced?

  • I love the name Grace. I like the names on your list, we seem to have similar styles. I love Mallory, Violet, and Eloise the most from your list.

Have you considered Lydia? I met the cutest 1 year old the other day named Lydia.

  •

I'd pick a C name to not leave out kid #3 since the other 2 start with C.

    Charlotte

    Corey

    Cassandra/Cassie

    Cassidy

    Charles

    Carter

Out of your list, the only ones that I like at all are Meredith and Elise.  The rest are horrid.

My very good friend JUST had a baby, and the baby's name is Lydia.  I do like it though, not a fan of "sharing" a name with a close friend though

This was not done on purpose - did not even realize it until after the fact.

We are adopting a 4 yr old (his name starts with J), so I would hate to name the 3 bio with a C and make it seem like we left him out on purpose.

  • My middle name is Florence! That gets my vote. My parents named me Jessica in 1987 when this was the number one name. Florence was after my paternal grandmother. I always wished my parents would have just given me my mn!! Have you considered Rose or Adele? I can't remember if those were on your list. I know your DH likes Grace but does he realize how popular that is? I don't know if that matters to you.

  • LOVE Esme!

    Meredith is nice, too.

  • I really like Eloise, Hazel, Esme, Violet, and Freya!

  • Love, Love, Love Esme.

    Runners up:

    Elsie

    Piper

ETA: FWIW, I hate Grace. Wayyyyyyyy too overdone.

  • Freya is a boss in World of Warcraft. I gotta veto that one.
  • Cora, Evelyn, Eloise, Elise, and Violet are on my long list

I also see that you have Florence, whereas I have Flora.

So we might have similar taste. So here are some more from my long list:

Caroline, Cecilia, Celia, Celise, Charlotte, Cheyenne, Clara, Cosette, Eleanor, Evangeline, Giada, Juliet, Liana, Lila, and Liliana

Yes, I do realize a lot of my names start with the same letter and are very similar to each other. I just really like those types of sounds I guess. Haha.

Anyway, of those I kind of think that Clara would be cute since you already have Colin and Cora, but it might be too matchy matchy, and if you have 3 C's, you really can't go to another letter for LO#4...

PS: Why didn't he want Colin to be the III?

  • I love Violet and Mallory!

I like your name choices, a lot!

Along those lines, what about Franchesca, Josephine, Lila?

I was going to suggest the C thing too but I agree with you...name new baby something so J doesn't feel left out.

Colin is my son from a previous relationship - I got married to my husband when Colin was 11 yrs old

Completely, totally disagree. Quit it with the themes, people.

I like these ones best: Eloise, Hazel, Piper, Opal, Esme and Violet. Good luck getting DH on board! :)

  • I love Grace, Mallory, and Elise.

I like Meredith, Eloise, and Violet.

  • Grace is lovely but it's become a filler middle name, so it's lost its luster to me.

You really have a well-rounded list. My personal favorties are Eloise, Hazel (I just met an adorable girl named Hazel yesterday at the park), Meredith (not even in the top 1000 anymore, so you won't run into a lot of little Merediths, although technically it started life as a boys name), Elise, Piper, Dorothy, Mallory, Violet, Grace

That does sound pretty. I wasn't sure if it was "mee" sound or "may" sound, thanks for clarifying.

I understand about not wanting to use the same name as a close friend.

The only other names I can think of that haven't been mentioned already are:

    Stella, Gwyneth, Gail, Estelle, Penelope

    GL!

  • I like Mallory and Elise
