I didn't have an ob/gyn in topeka but had a midwife. Her name was Manya Schmidt. She practiced in Dr. Robert Barnett's office. She was absolutely wonderful!!
Welcome to T-town. Not very many bumpies living here. Just me and one other gal that I know of. Anyway, I reccomend Denise Nichols in Dr. Blake's office. Its through St. Francis Hospital, Topeka Association of OB/GYN. Denise is actually a midwife, but she is just as qualified as a dr. and takes more time with you. Plus you have more options for delivery. Dr. just does hospitals but midwifes will go wherever you go.
A good friend of mine who worked on the St Francis labor and delivery floor reccommended Denise Nickel (midwife) when I was looking around for a new doctor as my OB was no longer delivering babies. I have what is called a uterine didelphys which pretty much is a wall dividing my uterus in half, I wanted to make sure that I was seeing someone who was comfortable with my situation and who was for sure going to be there for my when I delivered my baby.
The recomendation from my good friend was fantasic! My first visit with Denise (which was a regular visit for a pap) was the easiest and most comfortable I had ever had. She also was very optimistic when it came to me and sustaining a pregnancy. Since I was 18 I had been told that getting pregnant would be very difficult and no one could tell me if it could even happen. At the end of the appointment Denise gave me a hug which I thought spoke volumes of her character.
It took my husband and I three months to get pregnant and we are now 10 weeks along. Since I am labled as high risk, I am now sharing my OB appointments with Denise and Dr. Polly Train (who in her own rights is completely awesome as well! I dig a chick that wears hemp jewelry!) I saw Denise yesterday who informed me that if Dr. Train was unavilable (which she told me herself the only way she would be unavailable for my delivery would be if she was out of town) that she would deliver my baby as long as there were no complications. And if we were to have to have a C Section that Denise would be there to hold my hand.
I have had nothing but positive things come from Topeka OBGYN...I completely love how they take care of you. Looke into Denise, she's GREAT!

Thanks for the info. Dr. Dickson from Lincoln Center delivered my first and I was not impressed... at all. She kept pushing pitocin, tried to get me to do a c-section (nothing was wrong... that i know of... i guess for her convenience?).. anyway.. delivered as I had planned with no csection but i just didn't like her bedside manner i guess...
Dr. Thomas Wiley is amazing! Everyone I know has gone to him and loved him. He's with Topeka OB/GYN and Associates. I couldn't be happier with him. I've been going to him for the last 29 weeks now!
I agree and recommend Topeka OB./GYN near St.Francis and Urish. Dr. Wiley is great. He will do what you want (to a degree) and try to answer any of your questions. He helped us before I was pregnant too because we had trouble conceiving. I ended up going on Clomid which helped since I'm due in January.
You could also try the Topeka Birth and Women's Center if you want to go all natural. They also do Well Woman exams if your not pregnant.
Personally, I want an epidural so I am going to deliver at the hospital.
FYI: If you want a sono before 20 weeks, just to verify date and all that, you have to ask for one. Most Topeka clinics don't make it common practice to offer to do a 10-12 week sono unlike some places in KC.
I can second the recommendation of Dr Polly Train in Topeka. I was pregnant with my 14th (no multiples, not high-risk) and NEW to the state of Kansas last summer. When I called the office, I asked the receptionist to pair me up with whomever she felt might best match my birthing interests. I mentioned that I don't want a doctor questioning my every refusal of various tests and that I had been there, done that and THEN some a lot in my pregnancies and deliveries. In other words, I knew what I was doing and what I liked to do. Dr Train ended up being a perfect match.
I would agree that you should steer clear of Dr. Dickson through Lincoln Center on Urish and that Dr. Gleason through Lincoln Center at 8th and Lincoln is fantastic. So are the midwives at the former location. They will deliver at your choice of location and provide a class on natural childbirth if that is your cup of tea. If you want to deliver at a hospital I would recommend doing a tour.
