freaking the f out.

just talking with one of the managers at my work about this -

https://www.insidebayarea.com/top-stories/ci_15391859

apparently, we're going to get a 2-4 hour window of advance notice before the verdict is read (no matter what it will be) and we will be forced to evacuate the building/area where we work.  she said the verdict is either acquittal or death penalty.  I didn't know that.  I just can't see a jury giving him the death penalty and I feel like an acquittal will cause crazy riots. i work right next to city hall in downtown oakland and there were riots right downstairs when Grant was killed.

they are giving a window of I think june 30- july 7 where they are saying don't drive to work, etc.  june 30 would be awful b/c i'm in charge of monthend processing at work - monthend and the 1st would be really bad days to not be able to get here.  i will try to do most from home, but i can't do all.  i'm afraid to come into work though at all, not knowing when this could happen.

Re: freaking the f out.

  • Wow, that is scary. Hopefully it won't be as bad as they're thinking...
    Anniversary
  • After the insanity that we're recovering from here in Toronto all I can tell you is to step away from any stupidity and keep going.

But, don't you work at a bank?  I think you'd go on immediate lock down and be secured inside if things were to get crazy.  I don't know, I think I'd stay away that day if it was at all possible- maybe stay late the day before and try to get as much done that needs to be there as possible?

  • I do work at a credit union (in the back office).  We're on the 6th floor of a city govt building.  Our main branch is downstairs right in the middle of the city hall plaza.  I don't know if we will know the day before this is going to happen.  We might not find out until the day of.  Regardless, we will not be allowed to stay in the building/branch.  Once it's announced that the verdict is coming, they are going to evacuate the building/area.
  • Wow, that's really scary!
  • OMG that is scary!!!!!
  • I can't believe how crazy this case has become.  It is so sad.  The amount of publicity is crazy.  Be safe, Wendy!

Stay safe! I remember how crazy BART was after that. Our trains were help up by protesters and police a few times. I can't imagine what it will be like if the verdict isn't what people want!

  • I'll try ladies! I haven't decided if I should start trying to take BART in to work like they are recommending. I haven't really taken it since sometime during my pregnancy.  (I definitely need to start again..i'm putting WAY too many miles on the MDX and spending over $200 a month on gas!)  My train I would take goes right through the station where he was killed, so that will definitely be a hot spot.  I'm worried that the verdict will come down while I'm on the train.  Jeff thinks I'm freaking out for no reason

Why are they recommending everyone take BART?

I'm not sure.  We're going to have a meeting about this in a little while at work.  I guess what I'm worried about, with driving, is having my car surrounded.  I was talking to a couple coworkers this morning and they told me I need to be black for the day and to go get myself some suntan lotion.  lol   They said they were worried about getting their cars surrounded as well (and they're black)

  • Good luck with the whole situation.  Hopefully it won't be as bad as it could possibly be predicted but things like that are such variables.  Stay safe & know we're definitely keeping you and your coworkers in our thoughts.
  • I'd be concerned to not take my car though..here in Toronto during the G20 when everything went INSANE they shut down the transit lines and bypassed all the stations where friction could have become an issue.

Stay safe! And, I hope you get to stay home..

  • Last time there were riots regarding this, they shut down the station by my work.  However, this time they have assured that will not happen.

Found out a little bit ago that the defense rested today and the prosecution is doing their thing right now.  They will not be in court tomorrow (due to a jurors prior commitment?) and expect closing arguments on Thursday.  I've already asked to take Friday off/work from home, so hopefully they have the verdict while I'm safe at home!!
