ok at least I am not crazy....I even double checked w/ the pharmacist.
I could've sworn I've seen people post on here (and/or 9-12) that their LO had a reaction to something and they were glad to have Benadryl on hand....
DD had a reaction to peanut butter last week. I called the pedi and they said to give 1 tsp of Children's Benadryl and go to the ER by ambulance. She had hives, no trouble breathing, but they wanted to be safe.
Later I asked them about the dose and they said 1 tsp for every 25 lbs of weight. Now we are to give Benadryl if she ever gets hives again.
I would call your doctor of pharmacist. I give DS the childrens. This dosage in this chart is 3X what I was told to give my DS for bad reactions to bug bites (causing his eye to swell shut and impairing his ability to move his ankle.)
Our pediatrician recommended that we give it to DD when she had a really awful cold over the winter - I can't remember the dosage, but we used Children's Benadryl.
I was told by a friend who is a pharmacist that there is no difference in children's and adult benadryl, it's the same strength. The dosage is the important part.
That chart is what DD's pedi has said. She is in that first catagory, and we were told 3/4tsp.

We had to give it to my son when he had an allergic reaction to amoxicillin. I think we gave him a tsp. Do not use it to help your child sleep. He slept terribly when he was on benadryl.

Our pedi suggested we give it to DD back when she had a cold. I don't remember the exact dosage but she did recommend it. This was about a month ago or 2. You can always call your pedi or their nurse line.
Old Children's. The nurse line was able to give me dosage when I needed it. I actually didn't realize they would let babies take it so I didn't have any and had to run to the store. It's a good thing to have on hand.
I know this is an older post but DO NOT USE THE dosage charts shown here. My son is 9 months 23 lbs and my doctor just gave a 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) dose. I recommend never taking medication advice from a forum. I am a nurse and would never ask even a fellow nurse dosage advice. Always consult your doctor. No they do not make benedryl for infants but dosages can be given for children's benedryl ONLY by your physician.
Agreed use the dosage only as told by your doctor. The chart my doc gave us is much different from this. My lo is 21 lbs and I was told only to give 2.5 ml
We were told by a doctor to use it and they told us how much for his weight. The bottle itself said do not use for children under 2 so I double checked with the pharmacist when i bought it, and he agreed with the doctor on the dosage for weight.

Re: do they make infants' benadryl?

It's a GIRL!!
If your LO is >17 lbs you can use this chart
Dose every 4-6 hours:

thanks for the info!
I will just buy the children's version to keep on hand, but probably just call if I ever need to give it (which I hope I don't!!)
