HSG side effects

Hi ladies!

For those of you who had an HSG, how long did you experience staining and cramps?  I had mine on Friday and I'm still experience mild but uncomfortable cramps and occasional spotting.  It's not severe enough to call but I was just wondering how long I should expect this continue.

Re: HSG side effects

  • I think everyone reacts differently.

I guess I was one of the lucky ones.  I had mild cramps for maybe an hour after the HSG and that was it.

  • I was completely fine by the next morning. Poor you! Feel better soon.
I've probably been on The Bump longer than you have.

  • I agree with the pp, everyone has a different experience.

The HSG procedure went fine, very little spotting, but the cramps were TERRIBLE (crying, in fetal position, etc...), I even had to call into work the next day.  Shockingly, the day after I was fine.

I'm sorry that you have had cramping since Friday.  IMO, if they are not gone by tomorrow, I would call your Dr.

  • I was crampy for 3-4 days after my HSG.  It wasn't horribly painful (not as bad as during the procedure), but definitely uncomfortable. As long as the pain isn't getting worse, I wouldn't worry too much about it. But if you're concerned, it can't hurt to call and ask your doctor.

  • i agree with PP - everyone is different.

in my case, i got into a car accident leaving the RE, so the adrenaline rush totally wiped out all crampage.  but i did feel some mild cramping the next day when the adrenaline was gone.

I think if you are still spotting though you may just want to call and ask the nurse.  There is never harm in asking.

    good luck

  • Thanks ladies!  I had a pretty bad experience on Fri.  They made it seem like it would be a walk in the park for me and, besides being incredibly painful during the procedure, I left the Dr's office to pick up my son at DH's work and ended up in the bathroom for 10 min. throwing up!  About 2 hours later everything seemed to subside so I didn't call but like I said in the OP it's still been mild cramping.  Ugh.  Well, hopefully it will end soon!
