NPR: fruit poll: counter or fridge?

I just picked up a bunch of fruit at the farm stand.  It looks beautiful in the bowl.  We are more likely to eat the fruit if I leave it out on the counter, but then I am asking for fruit flies.

ETA: Sorry, I should have said the fruit:  Bananas, grapes, peaches, apples, cherries

Re: NPR: fruit poll: counter or fridge?

  • It totally depends on what kind of fruit it is.

  • It depends what it is. bananas, apples,  pears go on bowl on counter.

Grapes, plums and oranges go in fridge.

Depends. Peaches, plums, pears, apples, oranges etc go on counter. Berries, grapes and melon (once it is cut) go in fridge.?
  • Depends: bananas, apples, oranges, pears go on counter, but berries, grapes go in fridge

  • The fruit flies come swarming if I leave them out.  Also, I find fruit and veggies (including potatoes) lasts longer in the fridge.  Bananas do go on the counter though, as they ripen too fast w/o oxygen.  We eat them fast or I make them into banana bread after 2-3 days because H can't stand the smell of ripe bananas.
  • This is an ongoing battle with my DH. I prefer my fruit room temp. He likes it all cold.

  • The peaches and grapes int he fridge and the rest on the counter.

For me? I like cold fruit whenever possible. I do not like room temp fruit in most cases. But that is me.

    Bananas - counter

grapes - fridge, washed, taken off stems and in a bowl/tupperware

peaches - fridge (but can be on counter)

apples - fridge (but can be on counter)

    cherries - fridge, washed and de-stemed, in a bowl/tupperware

  • Anything that needs to ripen after I buy it (bananas, pears, plums, peaches, etc.) goes on the counter. Berries and grapes go on the fridge. I prefer cold apples so those go on, too.

  • Depends on the fruit, bananas and anything else that I need to use that day in the bowl, almost everything else in the fridge.

  • Usually a little of both- some in the fruit bowl on the counter, some in the fridge. Just depends on what it is, how soon we'll be eating it, and how ripe it is.

Apples, grapes and any kind of berry are always refrigerated though.

LOL--ditto!!! I'm so glad I'm not the only "crazy" one that plucks them and puts them in the bowl asap. :)

  • I don't even own a fruit bowl. Everything goes in the fridge, unless I am trying to ripen mangoes and peaches. oh, bananas go on the counter. love cold fruit.
  • Totally depends on the fruit.
  • Bananas are always on the counter. I usually put some apples, pears, peaches, oranges (that type of single piece fruit) in a bowl on the counter and some in the fridge. We're more likely to eat it if it's out, but we don't go through it fast enough, and it stays better in the fridge. Berries, grapes, cherries, etc go in the fridge. I actually didn't know you could leave them out for longer than a day or so.
