Silly Question

Ok, don't laugh at me for asking this, but should I be sleeping on something in case my water breaks?  I know that it doesn't always break, & sometimes it's just a trickle, but I don't want to ruin my mattress!

Re: Silly Question

  • I have no experince, but after reading younghouselove blog, they had something on the bed and I can image doing the same once that time comes. (Not that I know anything about water breaking)
  • I never even thought about this!  Maybe I should break out one of the baby's spare waterproof pads.  Smile
  • Loading the player...
  • My OB suggested a towel or waterproof mattress pad....we have a Tempurpedic & have a super expensive waterproof cover so I didn;t sleep w/ any addl waterproofing.
  • I bought mattress pads, that i could end up using for A's crib. And I brought home some chucks from work. My water broke but i caught it in time, so no mess on the bed. The bathroom, not so much! Also keep in mind if your car seat where you are sitting, I leaked through my super duper pad, pants, luckily i put a chuck down or else it would have been all over my seat.

Sorry to be an idiot, but what's a chuck?

  • When my water broke I didn't get any on the bed, which is surprising because I actually went back to bed and laid back down because I wasn't sure if that was what it was.  For me I didn't leak at all when I was laying down, just when I was sitting and walking.  I would worry more about putting something on the carseat!  Big Smile

I could have written this.  The hospital uses puppy pee pads.  You can get a pack of those and put them in your bed and on the carseat.

  • Towards the end of my pregnancy I kept chucks in the car, and I put one of the babys waterproof pads under my fitted sheet. That sucker sure made me sweat though!
  • I was gonna say chucks too, buy a pack & you can use them pp if you have excessive blood loss pp.
