When do you start watching what you watch on TV?

DH and I can't decide when we should begin keeping certain TV shows off of the TV while LO is awake. DD watches Naruto with her in the AM before leaving for work, and then in the evening sometimes we watch an episode of Criminal Minds while she's in her Jumparoo or playing on her blanket.

I talked to my mom about when she thinks we should start being careful, but she had no input (she's forgotten practically everything about motherhood, apparently lol).

I'm not saying that we sit her down with us in front of these shows, but we catch her watching sometimes. When should we stop watching them before her bedtime?

  • I was thinking about this while watching True Blood and Hung the other day. Those are highly inappropriate shows!

DH and MIL and FIL watch this show too. They're raising my niece and nephew (long story) and watch it all the time around them. They're 4 & 2 (I think), and DH and I say all the time that we know exactly why those children won't sit down to watch a movie to save their souls!

We just want to make sure we don't scar our baby - or make it so that we can't get her to watch a Disney movie with us when she's older! lol

or a DVR, we watch all of our shows while she is napping or after she goes to bed. I find it hard to concentrate on the shows while she's awake anyway.

We usually watch while DS is nursing and when he's down for the night.  When we watch TV during the day, he's usually on the floor playing or in the exersaucer and not paying attention anyway.

There is no way in hell that a child should see those kind of programs. I am 35 and still shocked by how graphic True Blood is.

Yeah, absolutely abhorrent that they do this, but like I said..."long story". As if the vampires weren't bad enough they're having sex, too. Confused

  • I stopped watching non-kid shows around her at 2-3 mos when she started showing interest in the television. I just now started letting her watch a select 3 shows of her own (Sesame Street, Play with me Sesame and Wordworld) at 10 minute intervals maybe 2 or 3 times a day when she needs some calm-down time.
