My DS will be 6 months on the 4th of july and he wears 12 month clothes. There are a few brands that 9 month will fit him (Target), but mostly I buy 12 month. DS isn't even a large baby he is in the 50th %!
When Katie was 6-7 months she couldn't wear 6 month Carter's PJ's because her length would squish her toes. At 8.5 months she can still wear 6 month size Carter's pants and onesies.
We're all over the place. 6-9/6-12 shirts although some 3-6 still fit, 3-6 pants/shorts but we're using the 6-12 as well, and *just* started fitting into 3-6 shoes. He still rocks some 0-3 ones but they don't have grips for the bottom. And he's hardly in shoes for the summer.

I voted 12 month because thats what size I've started buying. Really he fits 9month but because of his reflux I have to buy 12 month pants size. I'm trying to find him a pair of jeans for him because 9 month size is too tight on his tummy and 12 month is HUGE. I told DH I need to find maternity jeans for babies.
DS is all over the place....he's only 30-40% in weight but 95% in height so he needs bigger onesies and tops but smaller shorts/pants because he is so skinny. TOTALLY ANNOYING...bought 3-6 jean shorts and they are too big in the waist!! The kid is tall and skinny like his parents - he cant help it
LO can fit 9 month clothes, but I prefer to buy 12 months so he'll have more growing room. I purchased 2 of those one piece things from Carter's in 18 months so he won't look jacked up. I'm not sure what size shoes he wears ie 0,1,2,3, but we did get 2 pairs of sandals size 3-6 months from The Children's Place.
Re: Click Poll #2 (for 6-7 month old babies)
Definitely 6-9 / 6-12 tops & onesies etc.
She can still wear her 3-6 leggings & bottoms though, like little capri's :-)
DD will be 9 months on Friday and still wears 3 month clothing. Gymboree runs big so she usually wears 0-3 with them!
You'd think it would save on shopping but all her stuff is winter and we had to go out and buy summer stuff! Ugh!
We are working on her weight gain (had RSV at 3 month very badly and it set her back a few months).
That's what we do! It's adorable.
