Well, I had my appointment and first internal and it was 100 TIMES WORSE THAN I EVER EXPECTED!
Seriously, it was painful to the point where I actually cried out. I was shaking, sweating and almost threw up at one point. It felt like severe diarrhea cramping. I had to tell him to stop and hold where he was so I could try to relax as I'm sure I was just clamping down against the pain.
Baby is still SUPER high which is why it was so painful, he had to go in extra far to find the head. Umm I could have told him the baby was still super high before his entire arm was up my hoo-ha. I also could have told him that the baby is head down but I understand he had to verify that.
So, my stats are 1 cm dilated, baby is not engaged at all and he didn't even mention effacement. He probably couldn't even tell because he could barely reach!
I have another appointment on Friday where we'll do 'more thorough' examining so lets just pray that the baby starts to drop before then.
And if this was any indication of what labor is going to feel like, I'll take any and and all drugs I can get.
Re: 36 week Dr Appt :-/
this happened to me too at my 37 appt. the baby was so high she literally had half her arm up there and it was so painful I told her to quit. She could not even find the my cervix.
vibes for the baby to drop soon! hang in there!
Oh no. I am sorry. Hopefully, the next one won't be so bad.
Samantha, it is done at the end of pregnancy to check how dialated you are, hopefully to give you some idea of where you are in the labor process. It is so painful because they stick their fingers way up your coochie to feel your cervix. But I never had one becuase I didn't make it to 38 weeks, which is when my doc started internals, so I don't know what it feels like.

Drop, baby, drop!
My stomach is turning just thinking about it!
Thanks Sam, good to see you here, btw!
Kim- I have to go back Friday because my next appt isn't until the following Friday and he didn't want to go almost 2 weeks without seeing me at this point.
Our office starts internals at 36 weeks and checks weekly until the baby comes. He said once the baby in engaged it won't be anywhere near this bad. Here's hoping!
The first internal was the worst one for me. I think getting checked while you're in labor is much worse! Dealing with that and having a contraction sucks!
This. But there is hope for all the ladies who have not had their first internal yet. A-man was pretty low at 35 weeks (had an u/s b/c he was measuring big). My internals were not that bad, until my membranes were stripped the second time. I think my doc. wanted to be sure it worked that time around...and it did.
Ouch! Hopefully baby C drops for you soon!
