Babies: 6 - 9 Months

should I be concerned?

DS only gained a few ounces this month.  He was 16 lbs 11 oz at 7 months and today at 8 months he is only 17 lbs 2 ounces.  Should I make an appointment? He only started crawling a few days ago, so I don't think that's it. Is this something to be worried about?

Re: should I be concerned?

  • I have no idea; I would call the pedi but I am super paranoid.  My sweet girl gains about 2 lbs every 2 months but that has got to slow down when she gets bigger right.  I am sorry, I am not much help.

  • As long as your DS is eating I wouldn't be concerned, of course that is always challenging when it's your baby.  My DS went 3 weeks without gaining a single ounce but the MD's weren't worried.  Baby's really do seem to grow in spurts, he'll likely start gaining a bit faster again soon but 7 ounces in a month is about normal because they normally really slow in their gain by that age.  GL!
  • Were both of those weights taken at the drs office? If so, the dr would see the weight and notice if there was a problem. Also if they were taken on different scales there could be a slight difference. Either way, I don't think I would worry. If he seems to be eating less or not feeling well/acting like himself then maybe call the pedi.
