Babies: 6 - 9 Months

diapers seem too big suddenly

Could this be a sign that DD has lost weight?  I have a big baby (95-97%tile everything) so she has been in size three for a few months.  Suddenly her diapers are gaping and not staying on right.  I've had to deal with several blow outs and now I can tell they are too big around her legs.  She has been crawling and pulling up lately.  So I can only assume she is loosing baby fat.

Should I be concerned?

Re: diapers seem too big suddenly

  • Are you sure they aren't too small?  The blowouts is why I ask.  Typically when my kids have started having a lot of blowouts is when I go up a size.  DS2 is average in everything and he is size 4's because the size 3's looked tight on him.  Have you changed diaper brand?  If not, you may want to try.  I tend to be a Pampers girl (although old school Cruisers not the new ones) and have noticed that Huggies actually fit DS2's legs better.

  • Yeah, I'm wondering if they're too small too.  Ri is only in the 50-75th percentile for height and weight and she's been in size 4 (Huggies) for a week now.  I would buy a small pack a size up and give those a try.  The only time Ri ever has blowouts (and it's usually just pee) is when the diaper has been too small.
