Babies: 6 - 9 Months

XP: rolling over = trouble falling asleep???

I  posted this first on 3-6, but thought more of you would have dealt with this by now since your babies are older.

DD has been rolling on the floor for a few weeks now, but just recently started doing it regularly.  I laid her down for her nap about 1/2 ago, and she just keeps rolling over, and then lifting her head and playing like it's tummy time.  She doesn't get mad or frustrated, just is squealing and playing.

I left her on her tummy to see if she would just fall asleep like that, but it didn't seem like she was going to.  So, then I went in and flipped her on her back, and she rolled right over again.  This happened several times.

Finally, I had to swaddle her in her sleep sack/swaddler to get her to fall asleep.  I will keep an eye on her now to make sure she doesn't roll over while swaddled, but if you have experienced this, how long did it last.  Will she calm down once the novelty of rolling wears off?

  • I wish I had something positive to tell you, but Kieran has been doing this for over a month now.  It's the worst in the middle of the night when he rolls onto his tummy and then won't roll back over.  It's made for some super long nights and a super tired mommy.

  • My sweet girl did this for about a month straight.  She doesn't do it too much now but every once in a while I will hear her crying because she is stuck on her tummy; even though she knows how to roll both ways...she seems to forget in the middle of the night.  Sorry no tips though.
  • And this is why my son was swaddled until he was 7 months old! We used the Woombie, so he was able to move around a bit if he did get himself on his stomach.  At the worst of it, we even used a sleep positioner.  However, my son did NOT like being on his stomach, so we were a little more desperate.

At 7 months, I just went cold turkey without the Woombie, and he was totally fine.

  • Thanks ladies.  I never dealt with this with DS, he just rolled over one day in his sleep.  I woke up and looked in the monitor and he was sound asleep on his stomach.  Freaked me out, but it was a non-issue for him.  Every baby is different, though, I am very quickly realizing.  :)
