I don't know why, but I jsut can't get into this name (or Tess). It's certainly not horrible, just not a favorite of mine. Do you know if it is short for anything?

I think originally it was short for Theresa/Teresa.

Thanks. Not really a fan of Teresa/Theresa either.
It is my 10 year old niece's name, and so I am biased, but I love it. She was named after my mother, who is Theresa. The name has grown well with her so far, and I think it is one of those 'nick names' that really can stand alone as a given name.
I really like it but I also agree with PP that it seems like more of a nickname for a longer name. But if you like it as a full first name, go for it!! It's very cute!!
I really like it-not sure why. My other girls names I like are Emily, Elisabeth, Eve, Charlotte, Kathryn...so Tessa doesn't really fit, but I still really like it! DH vetoed it a while ago though

I love the name, but I don't like the meaning - "to reap". Makes me think of the grim reaper. Haven't decided yet whether that means I wouldn't use it, though.

I love the name Tessa! Growing up I had a cat named Tessy and I wished I would have saved that name for a future child, lol. Tessa is a beautiful name.

I was friends with a Tessa in high school, it was short for Contessa.

I have a friend that named her girl Tessa and my niece is Teslyn but we call her Tess. I like it for their kids, but I personally would never choose it for one of my own, just NMS.
As a Tess I have to chime in. I love my name (short for Teresa) and I also love the name Tessa. Neither is very common and it's not a name you will likely have to worry about having 5 of in her class when she starts school.

I think it's cute. For some reason it strikes me as a southern belle type of name (I mean that in a good way). Since you're from Texas, that might appeal to you. I like it.
Our neighbours daughter is named Tessa (Tess for short). At first I thought it was odd, but now its really grown on me! It is a cute name for a girl, but my only concern would be that it doesn't 'grow' with the child...
We're probably going to use Tessa Kay if we have a daughter. I love it and I think it's timeless! Yes, it does mean "to reap" (which means to gather). I think if you pair it with a nice middle name, the meaning can be lovely.
I have been trying to warm up to Tessa.. Tess is currently our top choice and my only slight hesitation is that people will constantly ask if its short for anything. But I really prefer just Tess.. Am pairing it with Catherine I think

NMS, but not terrible. I think it also might have come from Contessa, which is a very old name.
What book was it you were reading?

But again, I am biased.

Tessa is one of my top names, so I love it.
This is pretty irrelevant, but the one of the ice dancers who won the gold in the last Olympics was Tessa Virtue.
Was this the new Emily Giffin book, perhaps?
It's okay. Not my style, but I'd admire it on someone else's child.

Tessa = nay
Tess = yay
Tressa is a similar name that isn't really a nickname, if that bothers you.
Love it!
If this baby had been a girl we were considering Tessa Claire for her name.
