any harm to doing stage 3 foods?

My ped is very relaxed with what to feed LO and gave us a short list of things to avoid and said to use our judgement on everything else.  DS seems to like lumpier food.  Is there any harm to trying Stage 3s?

Re: any harm to doing stage 3 foods?

  • I think all stage 3 foods are combos, but if LO has tried all of the different foods found in one jar, I would say go for it!

  • I think that as long as LO can tolerate the lumpier foods then go for it.  Also, there are more ingredients in each jar so you just have to be aware of them in case of allergic reactions.

With DS he didn't like the taste to the stage 3 foods(they are pretty bland and not always good combinations).  We ended up going from stage 2 foods to food from our plates.  In fact, while making room for DD's solids in the pantry I found a few stage 3 jars hidden in the back.

I think this is going to be what we do, DD is starting to get disinterested in food from a jar in general.

  • DD eats stage 2 and 3 already.  Stage 1 was just so runny and bland.  Like PPs said, if they can handle the lumps go for it.

  • Don't be surprised if your LO HATES stage 3's. We went right from 2's into finger foods b/c LO refused to eat the lumpier purees.

Might I ask what your "stay away" foods list from the pedi was? When I called and talked to the on call nurse a few weeks ago, they just said honey and nuts but I'm curious what your pedi told you. We have an appt Friday for his 9m appt so I plan to ask him obviously.

Honey, nuts, egg whites, and anything with dairy since DS has a dairy allergy.  He also said no hot dogs.  Other than that, he said to watch for choking hazards and to have fun!
