Babies: 6 - 9 Months

If one more person makes this comment I'm gonna smack 'em

So my LO had to have surgery Thursday.  So she couldn't eat past 2 AM our time.  Anyways when the doctor came in to visit us prior to taking her back, he made the comment oh it probably was a good thing she skipped a couple of meals!  I couldn't believe it!  I know she's 20 pounds and she's only 6 1/2 months old but it's not like she's huge or anything.  Just healthy!  Alot of people say this about her.  She only eats BM and some veggies.

BTW - She was such a good girl.  I thought she would be screaming all morning wanting to eat, but she only started getting fussy when the took her back!  We are so lucky,

  • She is perfection. Anyone who says anything else is crazy.

  • WTF!  What kind of doctor condones starving a baby for weight loss!?!?!

DS is 19.5 lbs at 6 months. Thats only 75% for weight (at least for boys).  BITE ME, doc!  Your kid is NOT fat at ALL.

You're lucky your baby isnt freaking out.  Mine goes nuts if you're 10 mins late on feeding him.  Piglet!

  • Awww, she's a cutie! I got the "weight" talk from my doctor, but on the other side of it - she was "too skinny." And she gets plenty of breastmilk (through bottles at daycare, so I know how much she gets), fruits, and veggies. Babies are all built differently. You would think doctors would be the first to understand that.

  • Thanks everyone.  To be fair, he's a pediatric urologist (not a pedi) but STILL.  He should know better.

  • People say things without realizing how it comes across.  Your DD is very pretty.  How'd surgery go?  Is she doing well?

  • Thanks I think she's pretty too!  Surgery went well so hopefully no more in the future.  She is being extremely clingy but that had to be a pretty traumatic experience for her.

Your LO is adorable!  It's amazing how fast they grow.

  • Did your pedi recommend him? I'd let them know what they said and how it made you feel.

Little C is, too. Sheesh, "fat" jokes aren't funny at any time, ESPECIALLY toward babies.

  • Can we start a "Big-Boned" Baby Board??  Haha!  My 8 month old, according to my home scale, is almost 25 pounds...she's been between the 95th and 100th percentile on weight and height since she was born.  Some babies are just bigger.  (Which is fine by me, I love cute baby-cheeks) :)

  • I really think he was just joking.  It's like when H wouldn't nurse and my pedi said "it won't hurt him to miss a few meals."

It was obvious to me she didn't really think it was good for him to not eat, but was joking because he's huge.

I think you need to lighten up a little.

  • Your daughter is adorable! LOVE the cheeks!

My DD was a chunk when she was a baby, and I got A LOT of comments but soon after she started walking she thinned down and is now very much on the slim side. In fact I have a really had time finding pants that don't fall down her tush.

  • Yea, I'm sure he was joking too.  But when you know your baby is hungry and you're doing everything in your power to keep them happy, the last thing you want to hear is a comment like that.  We were stressed, had a long night, and a long drive to get there.
