A) My name is Sara and I also live in Pgh. ![]()
My parent's dog was attacked by another dog (Pitbull mix) while on a walk several weeks ago. The other dog busted out of it's house, unleased and un-fenced, and bit down on Penny's neck. The dog wouldn't release for anything, and Penny had wounds to 3 legs as well as her neck. They live in McCandless, so they dealt with that Police Department first. Since then, they have been in contact with the Allegheny County Dog Warden who has been much more helpful. The other dog's owner paid for Penny's vet bills (she needed stitches, an overnight in the hospital, antibiotics, and pain medicine). Unfortunately, this is the 4th time the dog has attacked another dog, but the previous episodes went unreported. Therefore, the dog is being forced to go to obedience classes and the owners were warned that if this happens again, they will be forced to do whatever is necessary under the "Dangerous Animal Act"... it's called something similar. That includes adding $50,000 more to their homeowner's insurance.
Your situation is clearly different... I don't see how it could possibly be your fault if your dog was in your fenced-in yard. But the Dog Warden was really the only one who seemed to care enough to make the owners do anything. And to make matters worse, the owner is pregnant... and they're gonna bring a baby home to that!!!
I found a phone number for you. 412-366-1989 Steve Soehr. Even though you are dealing with a cat, they may be able to help you. Please let me know how this turns out.
