Teeth grinding

Does anyone else have a baby who grinds their teeth, and if so, what do you do about it? My DS is 7 months old. His 7th tooth just broke through today. He has 4 top and 3 bottom. Just this past week, we have heard him grinding his teeth together, and it's the most awful sound ever! Sounds like he is chewing up rocks. Gives me chills just to think about it. Yuck. If I notice him doing it, I tap his mouth with my finger (gently!) and say, "Stop that". I try to hand him a toy to chew if there is one nearby. Anybody else have any experience with this? Thanks!

I'm a dentist and I see this question a lot, so hopefully this can be a general PSA.  It's normal for babies and children to grind their teeth.  There's nothing you can do to stop it and it isn't harmful.  I know it sounds awful but it's really nothing to worry about.
