Re: SAHMs....

  • We are planning more.  I'll stay home at least until they are all in formal school and then just part time so I can be home when they get sick or the like.

    This.

  • at least until my youngest is in school, and i'll only work during school hours
  • At least the first year of my DS life.  After that I am not sure. Sometimes I miss going to work. The plan right now is to SAH until DS is in preschool. I am only having one child so it is a priority to me to be home with him as much as possible.
  • Until our youngest starts preschool. So quite awhile.

  • I didn't originally plan it this way, but we're moving to Hawaii in October for 3 years (DH stationed there) and I will be a SAHM the whole time. I plan on going back to school to get my teaching license and we'll have one more baby while we're there. Then when we move I'll get a job again, when DD will be about 4 and LO #2 will be about 1 (hopefully)
  • Well, I was on disability from teaching for several months when I found out I was pregnant, so I haven't worked in a while.

I think I'd like to work part-time when LO goes to school, but I also want to be available to help in her classrooms, chaperone field trips, etc. We're only planning on having one baby, so I'm hoping to cherish every single moment I have with DD (not that others aren't, you know what I mean).

My health doesn't lend itself to a work-outside-the-home job right now, and I have no idea how it will be when DD is in school. Hopefully much better. In the meantime, I'm doing some writing, and I'm hoping to get some freelance work.

  • we planned on me staying home until they both start school full-time and then i would go back to work part-time so that i could be home when they get home.

Being a stay at home kinda just happened. I had only recently joined Dh in  another state when we got pg ( we had been trying for 1.5 years) Since I was new to the area and hadn't gotten a job yet, it made sense for me just to SAH. We also decided that we didn't want DS in daycare. Previously he would have been with a relative so no matter where we were, he wouldn't have been in daycare. Anyway, since we are now 1300 miles from any of our relatives, I'm doing the SAHM thing until either he starts fulltime school or my mom moves in with us which may be in the next 2-3 years. Even then, i will probably only work p/t because I'd like to be as involved with his school and everything as possible. I'm lucky that i don't have to work, but I need something of my own. I kinda feel like Mommy and have lost my own identity.

  • Hopefully we'll have another and then I will stay home until they are in preschool.  I plan on starting off with part time work and then full time when they are in school all day.
